While there are reports that she planned to seek asylum in the UK, her son and former Chief Advisor Sajeeb Wajed Joy told NDTV on Monday that she didn’t want to leave the country.
“She wanted to stay; she did not want to leave the country at all. But we kept insisting that it was not safe for her. We were concerned for her physical safety first; so we persuaded her to leave,” Joy said, adding that he did not discuss with her the plans to head to the UK.
Hasina is reportedly in good spirits but is disappointed by the turn of events, Joy added. “I spoke with her this morning. She’s in good spirits but deeply disappointed,” he said.
