CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday took note of detestable posts against the victim in Kolkata trainee doctor rape and murder case and asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to file a report within two weeks.
Hearing a PIL, the High Court took note of the defamatory posts against the victim on social media and noted some posts had the victim’s photograph. The High Court observed the posts were “far from being acceptable to any member of the society”.
In the PIL, the petitioner appealed to the Court to direct the central agency to probe the cybercrimes connected with the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
A bench comprising Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya directed the CBI to check whether it could find a way to block these posts. The bench directed the central agency’s joint director or any other competent officer to file a report in this regard by September 18.
A postgraduate trainee woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, following which Sanjay Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer was arrested. The gruesome crime resulted in nationwide protests by doctors and citizens.
