CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The weather has taken a sudden turn in several parts of the country. On Monday, 12 October, heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds affected normal life in Delhi-NCR. In several areas of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, roads were waterlogged because of the rain. Office-goers faced traffic-related difficulties. The India Meteorological Department issued a warning for heavy rain and strong winds in Delhi. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 40 mm of rainfall by 5:30 am. The change in weather brought down temperatures and gave people relief from the heat.
The main reason for this change in weather is said to be a western disturbance and related atmospheric activity. These systems created conditions for cloud formation, thunderstorms and heavy rain over north-west India. Therefore, describing the rain only as the effect of a weather system that came from Pakistan would not be entirely accurate. Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow is also facing flooding and waterlogging. People are facing difficulties as water has reached homes in several parts of the city. According to reports, heavy rain earlier in the catchment areas of the Gomti river caused water to flow downstream, creating flood-like conditions in low-lying areas of Lucknow.
Meanwhile, reports of hailstorms in some parts of Rajasthan have increased farmers’ concerns. Heavy rain and hail can damage crops. The weather department has advised people to stay away from open spaces during thunderstorms, not to take shelter under trees and to follow local weather warnings.
