CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News and Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: The Allahabad High Court has issued important directions to the Uttar Pradesh government over the growing number of e-rickshaws in Lucknow and the traffic jams caused by them. The court has asked the state government to prepare an appropriate policy and decision on new registration of e-rickshaws in the capital. The court observed that the uncontrolled number of e-rickshaws on city roads is becoming a serious problem for traffic management.
During the hearing, the court said that people face difficulties because of the crowding of e-rickshaws on several major routes and intersections in Lucknow. This not only affects the speed of traffic but may also obstruct the movement of ambulances and other emergency services. The court underlined the need for the government to take effective steps to resolve the problem.
The court asked the state government to consider rules related to registration, operation and designated routes for e-rickshaws. It also made clear that for traffic management, registration alone is not enough; monitoring operations on roads and ensuring compliance with rules are also necessary.
E-rickshaws have become an affordable and accessible mode of short-distance travel in the city. A large number of people use them every day. However, the traffic jam problem is increasing because designated routes and traffic rules are not being followed in their operation. After the High Court’s directions, attention is now focused on the state government’s decision.
