CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : At a grand ceremony held at Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, students from two batches of the Hindi Chhand Writing Certificate Course were awarded certificates.
Renowned poet Dharmendra Solanki, the chief guest of the event, said:
“Chhand (metrical form) is the true essence of poetry, and the disappearance of traditional meters from modern platforms is a cause for concern. Training courses like this will give new momentum to the Chhand revival movement.”
He quoted national poet Maithili Sharan Gupt, emphasizing that:
“The purpose of poetry is not just entertainment, but also to guide society in the right direction.”
University Deputy Registrar Pooja Chaturvedi shared that this three-month online course is the first of its kind in India, designed to introduce budding poets across the country to the basics of Hindi poetic meters. Operated under the Faculty of Humanities and Liberal Arts, the course also supports skill development and self-reliance.
Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Ruchi Mishri Tiwari, informed that since its inception in October 2024, two batches of this course have been successfully completed.
Lead trainer and poet Yogesh Samdarsi added that after completing the course, students were invited to Bhopal for the ceremony, where each participant presented their compositions in metrical form (Chhand).
During the program, two poetry collections were also launched —
“Kavya Samarpan” by Naveen Kanungo
“Bhav Kanan” by Poonam Shukla
The ceremony saw participation from over 25 students from states including Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The program was conducted by Anil Sharma ‘Chintak’, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Yogesh Samdarsi.
This event was not just a celebration of poetic form but a significant step towards reviving Hindi Chhand writing, offering emerging poets a platform to showcase their talent.
