CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Delhi. The best way to remember a poet or litterateur is to read their literature. A poet like Rituraj can never disappear from view because his poetry contains a vast world.
Well-known critic and Hindi professor at Kirori Mal College, Dr Namdev, said at a meeting held in Rituraj’s memory that commitment makes Rituraj’s poetry important, as he gives space to the voices of the deprived and the suffering without any noise. He said Rituraj wrote remarkable poems while staying free of the popular pattern of progressive poetry.
Speaking at the memorial meeting “Alvida Rituraj”, organised by the Hindi Sahitya Sabha at Hindu College, Prof Namdev said that in his long poetic journey, Rituraj reached all aspects of life. Prof Namdev also read two of Rituraj’s poems, “Likh Sakte Ho Kya” and “Mare Hue Log”. He also referred to Rituraj’s poetry collections “Main Angiras”, “Ek Marandharma Aur Anya”, “Kitna Thoda Waqt”, “Pul Par Pani”, “Abacus”, “Nahin Prabodhchandrodaya”, “Surat Nirat”, “Leela Mukharvind”, “Asha Naam Nadi” and “Strivagga”.
Dr Deepak Jaiswal, assistant professor in the Hindi Department of Delhi University, said Rituraj created and refined his own path in poetry. He did not accept walking on ready-made paths. Citing several representative poems by Rituraj, Dr Deepak said his voice in contemporary poetry was distinct, special and unmatched. He said that among the poets who emerged after the 1960s, Rituraj stood apart.
At the event, senior professor of the Hindi Department, Prof Rachna Singh, read Rituraj’s poems “Andhere Mein Prarthana” and “Antim Shabd”. Dr Rupali Sinha read “Bharatvakya”, “Sangeet Roopak” and “Kavi Log”.
Prof Bimalendu Tirthankar of the department paid tribute to Rituraj and said that although the heat of life and its struggles form the main voice of Rituraj’s poetry, there is also ample space in his work for love and tender emotions. Prof Tirthankar also read Rituraj’s poem “Suryast Ke Samay Prem”.
Earlier, department in-charge Prof Pallav welcomed the guests and gave a detailed introduction to Rituraj’s poetic personality. He said there are many stars in the literary sky of Hindi, but among those whose radiance will remain for a long time, Rituraj’s name will be foremost, as his poems reveal reality in an entirely different way. Prof Pallav said that in his literary journey of nearly six decades, Rituraj also wrote notable prose works such as “China Diary” and criticism on Lajjaram Mehta. Dr Neelam Singh, Dr Pawan Kumar and Dr Vijay Bhan Azad offered floral tributes to a beautiful portrait of the poet in the auditorium.
At the end of the event, tribute was also paid to the poet with a two-minute silence. Hindi Sahitya Sabha president Vineet Khurana coordinated the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
