CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Amid supply disruptions caused by the ongoing US‑Iran war and ensuing geopolitical tensions, Hindustan Petroleum has said it is taking active steps to enhance LPG production and ensure that cooking gas remains available to households and key essential services.
The Indian government, responding to concerns over LPG availability, has directed oil refineries to ramp up production and channel additional output toward domestic household consumption to safeguard energy security. OMCs — including Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corp and Bharat Petroleum — have stated that LPG production will be increased and prioritized for domestic consumers and vital non‑domestic sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.
To manage distribution amid supply pressures, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has introduced measures such as extending the minimum booking interval for domestic LPG refills to prevent hoarding and black marketing. A committee of executive directors from the OMCs will review supply requests from other non‑domestic sectors like hotels and restaurants based on necessity and availability.
These steps follow broader industry and government efforts to address near‑term supply challenges caused by disruptions to global shipping routes in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, underlining India’s proactive approach to balancing demand and ensuring uninterrupted access to cooking fuel.
