CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has launched its first-ever International Lantern Spectacular at Victoria Park, bringing together lantern art and cultural traditions from around the world as part of Hong Kong’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.

Held from September 17 to 27, the event is themed “Reunion” and features more than 3,000 lanterns representing 20 countries and regions. The display combines international lantern traditions with Hong Kong’s local craftsmanship and Chinese cultural heritage.

One of the key attractions is the World Lantern Boulevard, where visitors can see lanterns inspired by different cultural traditions, including silk lanterns from South Korea, colourful lanterns from Brazil and Polish lanterns featuring traditional paper-cutting techniques.

The event also features four giant Qinhuai lanterns from Nanjing, created by traditional craftsmen. The installations draw on a lantern-making tradition with a history of more than 1,700 years and recognised as part of China’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

More than 400 traditional Hong Kong handcrafted lanterns are also being displayed at the Hong Kong Lantern Galleria at Hill Knoll Pavilion. In addition, technology has been incorporated into the celebrations through robot demonstrations, including lacquer fan-making and dance performances.

The International Lantern Spectacular is part of a wider citywide Mid-Autumn programme that includes the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and other festive activities. The HKTB said the initiative is intended to encourage visitors to explore Hong Kong’s cultural attractions while supporting tourism-related activity.
