CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Vivek Prasad Sagar, a member of the Indian hockey team and two-time bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, to arrive in Bhopal tomorrow.
The Olympic Games 2024 were held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Indian hockey team secured the bronze medal for the second consecutive time, with Vivek Sagar from the Madhya Pradesh State Sports Academy being a part of the victorious team. Notably, Vivek Sagar was also a member of the bronze medal-winning Indian team at the Tokyo Olympics. Vivek has represented India in two consecutive Olympic Games, playing a crucial role in securing two bronze medals. He is the first player from Madhya Pradesh to have won medals in two Olympic Games.
Vivek Sagar joined the Madhya Pradesh State Men’s Hockey Academy in Bhopal on July 1, 2013, and is currently an associate player of the academy. After winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the Madhya Pradesh government, following the announcement by the Honorable Chief Minister, appointed him as a DSP in the Police Department and awarded him a house in Bhopal along with a cash prize of ₹1 crore.
Vivek Prasad Sagar is scheduled to depart from Delhi on an Air India flight at 5:55 AM and will arrive at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal, at 7:20 AM.
Sports Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang congratulated Vivek Prasad Sagar via video call on winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. The Sports Minister, along with athletes and sports enthusiasts, will personally be present at Raja Bhoj Airport to welcome the Olympian on his arrival in Bhopal. Minister Sarang expressed his happiness and congratulated Vivek Sagar for his remarkable achievements in both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, bringing pride to the state and the nation.
Chief Minister announces ₹1 crore for hockey player Vivek Sagar
On winning the Olympic medal for the second time, the Chief Minister congratulated Vivek via a video call and announced a cash reward of ₹1 crore.
It is also noteworthy that in recognition of his sporting achievements, the Madhya Pradesh government has honored him with the Vikram Award and the position of DSP. In addition, he has been awarded the country’s highest sports honor, the Arjuna Award, by President Droupadi Murmu for his contributions to sports.
