CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: At Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), sanitation workers were honored on Tuesday as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” fortnight and the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary. BMHRC’s acting director, Dr. Manisha Srivastava, presented certificates of appreciation to the sanitation workers.
Dr. Srivastava paid floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. In her address to the sanitation workers, she remarked, “BMHRC deeply respects you, and this honor symbolizes that respect. The work you are doing cannot be done by anyone else.” She emphasized that there should be a sense of reverence for the work done by sanitation workers. “We should not act irresponsibly by littering and then expect sanitation workers to keep the entire premises clean,” she added.
Reflecting on Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Srivastava said that the people who come to BMHRC should draw inspiration from Gandhi’s life. This is why a Gandhi gallery, featuring various photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, has been constructed outside the OPD premises. She further mentioned that Gandhi was a strong advocate of cleanliness and was the first in the country to ignite the importance of cleanliness among the general public. “The work Gandhi undertook was not easy for anyone else to replicate. We must take inspiration from Gandhi and take responsibility not only for keeping our homes clean but also for maintaining cleanliness outside our homes and in our workplaces,” she said.
