CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal. As board examinations draw closer, one question repeatedly comes to students’ minds: how many hours should they study every day to secure good marks? Many students sit with books for hours, while others achieve better results through regular and focused study in less time. According to experts and successful students, success in examinations depends not only on the number of study hours, but also on the method of study, regular practice and understanding of subjects.

How many hours a day is appropriate? For students preparing for board examinations, about 4 to 6 hours of focused self-study every day can be useful. However, this duration may vary according to each student’s class, the status of the syllabus and individual capacity. Students whose syllabus is still incomplete may have to devote extra time, while those who study regularly can prepare effectively in less time as well. Students of Classes 10 and 12 should set a fixed time for study at home apart from school or coaching hours. Taking short breaks during study can help maintain concentration.

What can students learn from toppers’ preparation? The preparation of students who score well in examinations often gives importance to regularity, time management and practice. However, the routine of all toppers is not the same. One student may need more practice in mathematics, while another may have to spend extra time preparing long answers in science, languages or social science.

Students should focus not only on reading books, but also on solving questions, practising previous years’ question papers and identifying their mistakes. This helps them understand the examination format and develop the ability to write answers within the allotted time.

How should the right study timetable be prepared? First, divide the entire syllabus subject-wise and chapter-wise. Study difficult subjects at the time when your attention is at its best. Revise the chapters studied every day and assess your preparation at least once a week. Staying away from mobile phones and social media during study can be useful. After studying for 40 to 50 minutes, students can take a short break of 5 to 10 minutes and then resume study. Before the examination, along with studying new chapters, it is also important to revise old topics and practise question papers.

Do not ignore sleep and health. Staying awake all night to study is not necessary for scoring good marks. Teenage students generally need 8 to 10 hours of sleep. Adequate sleep, balanced food, light exercise and a regular routine help maintain memory and concentration. There is no single fixed formula for success in board examinations. Focused study according to one’s capacity, regular practice and timely revision can strengthen preparation. Students should prepare a routine according to their own needs instead of copying the study hours of others.
