CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Many parents worry whether the formula milk being given to their baby is suitable for the baby’s stomach. In some babies, mild gas, burping or slight spitting up after drinking milk can be normal. However, it is important to pay attention to digestive symptoms that occur repeatedly. If the baby has persistent vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, excessive gas or bloating after formula milk, a doctor should be consulted. Refusing to drink milk, becoming very distressed while feeding, or not gaining weight properly can also be warning signs.

Some babies may be allergic to cow’s milk protein. Signs can include red rashes on the skin or worsening eczema, vomiting, diarrhoea, and blood or mucus visible in the stool. In such a situation, it is not advisable to change the formula or start a special formula without a doctor’s advice. Also check whether the baby is drinking enough milk, gaining weight according to age and having enough wet diapers. While preparing formula, use only the water-to-powder ratio given on the packet. Adding too much powder can increase the risk of constipation and dehydration. If the baby shows difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face or lips, repeated forceful vomiting, green-coloured vomit, blood in the stool or signs of dehydration, seek medical help immediately.
