CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Howard Buffett, son of world-renowned investor Warren Buffett, has lived a life quite different from that of his father. While Warren Buffett became known for the stock market and the world of investment, Howard was interested from childhood in farming, machines and working with land. According to a report, at just 5 years of age, he turned the back portion of the family’s home in Omaha into a cornfield.
Howard’s father allowed him to choose his own path instead of living comfortably as heir to his wealth. Howard began studies at several colleges but did not complete a graduate degree from any of them. Warren Buffett believed his children did not need to imitate his success, but should do the work they liked.
Howard eventually made farming his profession. Warren Buffett bought land for him, but instead of giving it to him for free, charged him rent. Interestingly, the rent amount was also linked to Howard’s weight. Warren said he did not want his children to become used to receiving property only because of their surname. As an adult, Howard also made a name for himself in social work and photography alongside farming. He has worked in several countries around the world on issues related to poverty, food security and agriculture. Today, his life is an example of how, despite being born into an extremely wealthy family, he chose agriculture and social work as his path instead of his father’s field of investment.
