CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test, or HTET, has now become crucial for around 12,000 teachers working in government schools in Haryana. The Directorate of School Education issued a notice on 14 September 2026 related to HTET qualification in compliance with Supreme Court orders.
According to the directive, teachers who had more than five years left for retirement as of 1 September 2025 will have to pass the HTET for the relevant subject and level. If they do not obtain the prescribed eligibility, action may be taken to terminate their service or send them into compulsory retirement. Teachers who had five years or less left for retirement on that date have been allowed to remain in service until retirement. However, they will not receive promotions without passing the HTET.
To provide teachers adequate opportunities to clear the examination, the Education Directorate has instructed the Haryana Board of School Education, Bhiwani, to conduct the HTET twice a year. District education officers and district elementary education officers have also been asked to convey the order to the teachers concerned.
The action follows the Supreme Court’s judgment of 1 September 2025 and its review order of 29 May 2026. According to the central government, the Supreme Court has extended the deadline for obtaining TET qualification to 31 August 2028 and has called for the examination to be held regularly.
