CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal / Raipur : South East Central Railway (SECR) has successfully installed its first KAVACH-equipped engine, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of India’s rail network. KAVACH, an indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, is designed to enhance safety by preventing collisions, signal violations, and over-speeding incidents.
The installation of KAVACH on the SECR engine signifies a major step toward safer and faster rail operations across the network. Officials highlighted that the system uses real-time communication between engines and signaling infrastructure to automatically slow down or halt trains in potentially dangerous situations, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
Railway experts noted that this move aligns with the Indian Railways’ broader mission to implement cutting-edge safety technology and improve operational efficiency. SECR plans to expand the KAVACH rollout to additional engines and major routes over the coming months.
In addition to enhancing safety, the system is expected to contribute to smoother train operations and shorter travel times, benefitting passengers and freight services alike. The SECR team conducted rigorous testing before commissioning the engine to ensure full compliance with safety and operational standards.
With this milestone, India strengthens its position as a pioneer in advanced rail technology in Asia. The KAVACH-equipped engine is a testament to the country’s commitment to leveraging indigenous solutions for safer, faster, and more reliable train travel.
