CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal : Manchester United midfielder Amad Diallo gave a heart-warming response to a question about having to play on an empty stomach during Ramadan.
Diallo put up a crucial performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals yesterday. The Ivorian scored the match-winner in the dying moments of the game to seal a semi-final spot for the Red Devils.
Awed by his performance, a reporter asked him post-game, “I thought you played brilliantly when you came on. How difficult is it for you doing Ramadan fasting now, to be doing all that and then turn up here and then be up and down, up and down?”
Diallo responded, “It’s not easy when you [are] fasting but you need to believe in you. I [am] fasting for God so I am very happy to [be] fasting.” The conversation between the journalist and the player was uploaded by a fan on X.
Amad Diallo scored the match-winner against Liverpool in the 121st minute of the extra time. He came on the pitch as a substitute for Manchester United.
In the closing stages of the tie, Diallo nicked the ball off Harvey Elliott before setting up Garnacho for the counter. Diallo then paced through the middle as he received the ball again. He dribbled past Conor Bradley to drill a low shot past Liverpool goalkeeper Caiomhin Kelleher in the bottom far corner. Diallo celebrated the goal by taking his shirt off. This resulted in Diallo conceding his second yellow card of the night, leading to his dismissal.
Playing at Old Trafford, Manchester United had taken a lead off Scott McTominay’s finish in the 10th minute of the game. Liverpool were able to follow through as Alexis Mac Allister found Liverpool’s first goal of the game in the 44th minute. Moments later, Mohamed Salah added a second for the Merseyside-based side right before half-time.
The second half saw some back-and-forth attempts on goal as Antony succeeded in finding the equaliser for Manchester United in the 87th minute. A 2-2 score line between the two English giants saw the match go to extra time. Liverpool led for the second time in the game as Harvey Elliott sent a third goal past Andre Onana. Marcus Rashford came to Manchester United’s rescue in the second half as his 112th-minute finish made the score 3-3.
