CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: IAS Divya Mittal’s resignation accepted, speculation grows over Mirzapur politics
The Central government has accepted the resignation of well-known Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Divya Mittal. Mittal, a 2013-batch officer, had resigned from the Indian Administrative Service on August 30, 2026, citing personal reasons, family priorities and new goals in life. Her resignation has been deemed effective from September 15.
Divya Mittal served as district magistrate in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Mirzapur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Deoria. During her tenure in Mirzapur, her initiative to supply drinking water to Lahuriyadah village drew considerable attention. After water reached households in the village through the Har Ghar Nal scheme, local residents remembered her work for a long time.
After the acceptance of her resignation, discussion has intensified over her next innings. In particular, speculation has surfaced that she may contest the 2027 Assembly election from Mirzapur. However, Divya Mittal has not yet announced joining any political party or contesting an election. For now, it is therefore being seen only as political speculation.
Divya Mittal studied engineering at IIT Delhi and completed an MBA from IIM Bengaluru. Before becoming an IAS officer, she had also worked in London.
