CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News New Delhi: New Delhi: Agricultural research secretary and ICAR Director General M. L. Jat has called for stronger international and industry partnerships to reshape agricultural higher education, according to an official release issued on October 22.

Jat addressed a roundtable virtually on the sidelines of the Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue programme in Des Moines, United States. He spoke as president of India's National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

His remarks focused on preparing professionals for challenges including climate change, declining natural resources and biodiversity loss. He advocated moving beyond production alone towards an approach covering food systems and the wider agricultural value chain.

Jat also sought closer links between universities and industry, alongside policy dialogue involving researchers and public institutions. Connecting the Indian agricultural diaspora with domestic institutions was another priority.

The release referred to a memorandum of understanding with the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, intended to expand research cooperation, capacity development and knowledge exchange.
