CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: ICMR Additional Director General Dr. Sanghamitra Pati Visits BMHRC Dr. Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Director of the Regional Medical Research Center, Bhubaneswar, visited the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC).

Her visit began with paying tribute at the memorial built in honor of the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. She then inaugurated the newly established Eye Bank and Cornea Transplant Center at BMHRC. Dr. Pati also inaugurated the advanced Chemiluminescence Immunoassay Machine (CLIA), used for detecting infections in blood, and a modern Video Bronchoscopy Machine in the Pulmonary Medicine Department. The bronchoscopy machine will aid in the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases such as cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and COPD.

Dr. Pati interacted with the heads of various departments and participated in the launch of BMHRC’s first newsletter and annual calendar in the institution’s auditorium. She also honored the family members of Late Sevati Bai from Bhairunda’s Vasudev village, who donated her eyes to the hospital’s Eye Bank.

During the event, BMHRC’s In-Charge Director Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Medical Superintendent Dr. Anurag Yadav, and other senior doctors and officials were present. Addressing the staff, Dr. Pati praised BMHRC, emphasizing its uniqueness among ICMR institutions. She highlighted the hospital’s vast patient base and its critical role in research and treatment, calling BMHRC a valuable asset to ICMR.

Dr. Pati remarked that her visit to BMHRC was a memorable start to the New Year, appreciating the dedication and compassion of the hospital’s staff. She lauded BMHRC for fulfilling its responsibility of treating victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and expressed confidence in its potential to become a model hospital, not just for Madhya Pradesh but for the entire country.

In her welcome address, Dr. Manisha Srivastava reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing the best treatment to gas victims and other patients, acknowledging the support received from ICMR. She noted the significant improvements in the past 18 months, including the installation of new machines, recruitment of doctors, and an increase in patient admissions. She emphasized the hospital’s renewed focus on both patient care and research.
