CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: World No. 2 tennis player Iga Swiatek has withdrawn from the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup qualifying tournament. She announced her decision on social media on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Swiatek stated that she needs more time to focus on her career and health. As a result, she will not compete for the Polish national team against Switzerland and Ukraine in Radom from April 10-12.

Swiatek expressed, “I know this news may disappoint fans, especially Polish supporters, but this is the right decision for me at this moment.”

She further added, “I always represent my country with pride. Last year, I played in all major tournaments for Poland. I am proud of our team’s historic success in the BJKC semifinals and the United Cup final. Now, it’s time for me to find balance, focus on myself, and concentrate on my training. I wish my team and all the players the best of luck.”

The five-time Grand Slam champion recently suffered a quarterfinal defeat at the Miami Open to 19-year-old Alexandra Eala from the Philippines.

Swiatek played the match under extra security after an incident during a practice session where a spectator misbehaved with her.
