CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a wide range of programs in journalism and mass communication, which are designed to help interested students become proficient in this field.

Courses related to journalism are available at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate diploma levels.

At the postgraduate level, IGNOU offers four distinct programs:

Journalism and Mass Communication

Journalism and Electronic Media

Journalism and Digital Media

Development Journalism

These are two-year master’s degree programs, aimed at preparing learners to become professionals in media and communication.

According to Senior Regional Director Dr. Umesh Chandra Pandey, any graduate (from any discipline) is eligible for admission into these courses.

There is no age limit for admission, and the programs are offered in both Hindi and English.

Among these, the Journalism and Digital Media program primarily focuses on developing skills and competencies in journalism practices and digital media technologies. Graduates of this program will have tremendous employment opportunities in the digital media industry and other sectors that use information and communication technologies (ICT).

Likewise, the Development Journalism program is aimed at bridging gaps among planning agencies and stakeholders involved in the development process, enhancing public understanding.

It equips students with academic knowledge and professional skills, giving them a strong grasp of key development issues, and prepares them for career opportunities in local, national, and international media organizations and development agencies.

The M.A. in Journalism and Electronic Media enables students to learn and enhance skills in journalism, audio production, and audiovisual program creation.

This program is also ideal for professionals already working in the field who wish to upgrade their knowledge and obtain a formal degree.

According to Dr. Anshuman Upadhyay, Additional Director, these programs open vast career prospects for young students, including:

Print, electronic, and digital journalism

Content creation and editing

Audio-visual media production
