News Delhi/Bhopal: To mark the occasion of its 9th Foundation Day, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhopal, in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology (MPCST), organized a prestigious workshop on the theme ‘Science and Technology for Humanity’ at Hotel Palash Residency, New Market, Bhopal.

The primary aim of the workshop was to bring together eminent scientists, academicians, industry leaders, and policymakers to engage in dialogue on innovation for inclusive societal development. Chairperson of the IIIT Bhopal Board of Governors, Mrs. Kavita Khanna, extended her best wishes to the participants through a message.

Dr. Anil Kothari, Director General, MPCST,  graced the event as special guests and shared insightful thoughts. The event was also attended by several distinguished guests of honour, including Prof. K.K. Shukla, Director, MANIT Bhopal; Prof. C.C. Tripathi, Director, NITTTR Bhopal; Prof. Rajeev Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, RGPV Bhopal; and Prof. Goverdhan Das, Director, IISER Bhopal.

The session was presided over by Prof. Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Director, IIIT Bhopal, who emphasized the importance of leveraging technical education for the greater good of humanity. He underscored the role of social science as the most effective form of science and advocated for integrating life’s challenges into our systems rather than resisting them.

Prof. Goverdhan Das highlighted India’s strides in technological innovation, citing examples like UPI payments and the successful lunar landing at the moon’s south pole. He envisioned India achieving developed-nation status by the year 2058.

Prof. Rajeev Tripathi, in his address, stressed that the impact of technological advancement must be measured by its effect on society. He remarked that while science offers possibilities, its direction lies in our intent — whether we build bombs or tools for human welfare.

Prof. C.C. Tripathi brought focus to using IT to reduce the cost of medical devices and called for research tailored to India’s unique needs.

Prof. K.K. Shukla emphasized the concept of Karma Yoga in modern science, stating that one must derive personal satisfaction in every action while striving for zero pollution and net-zero energy consumption through science and technology.

In the final address, Dr. Anil Kothari remarked that the vision of a prosperous India depends directly on our pace of progress in technological innovation.

The event concluded with a collective call from all guests to pursue science and technology for social welfare and inspire students and researchers to innovate constantly. The workshop was attended by numerous students, faculty members, and industry representatives, marking the day as a significant celebration of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration.
