CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Students began a protest after a second-year student died by suicide on the IIT Bombay campus in Mumbai. The incident took place on Friday evening. The deceased student was identified as Sahil Wakode, who was studying in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. After the incident, a large number of students demanded accountability from the administration and a transparent investigation into the entire matter.

After information about the incident emerged, reports said more than 400 students staged a protest. The students demanded that the administration clarify the circumstances of the incident and strengthen student safety and mental health support on campus. During the protest, the institute director spoke to the students. It was also reported that the mid-semester examinations scheduled for Saturday were postponed. In the matter, students have alleged disciplinary pressure during the examination and fears of suspension, while IIT Bombay has said that no disciplinary action had been initiated against the student. Police have begun an investigation, and the circumstances of the death are being examined by the authorities concerned.
