CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A “Wall of Hope” featuring 20,000 Post-it notes written by young people is being displayed at IIT Madras Research Park in Taramani, Chennai. The initiative, led by the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF) and its Department of Youth Mental Health, collects messages describing the reasons that give adolescents and young adults hope and purpose. The year-long youth-led campaign was launched in October 2025, with messages gathered from participants at 23 colleges, four schools, five youth spaces and a scientific conference across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and West Bengal.
Around 400 trained youth ambassadors helped lead the campaign. According to SCARF psychiatrist Dr Shiva Prakash Srinivasan, the messages commonly reflected relationships and commitments, education and career ambitions, personal development, happiness and broader life goals.
The initiative also identified around 400 notes expressing distress or suicidal thoughts. Organisers said the anonymous format provided young people with a space to express difficult feelings and encouraged conversations about hope and well-being. The campaign did not provide therapy, but people showing signs of distress were directed towards counsellors when required. Organisers hope the initiative can become part of wider mental-health awareness activities in educational institutions.
