CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq appears to be caught in a serious controversy. After questions were raised over the injury he suffered during the Test series against England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to open an inquiry into the matter. According to reports, Imam may also seek legal advice to present his defence before the inquiry committee.
Questions raised over injury
Imam suffered a calf injury while fielding in the second Test against England. The PCB had said he had a muscle strain/tear issue and had been advised rest. Because of the injury, he did not come out to bat in either of Pakistan’s two innings.
However, questions began to be raised about the injury after a video surfaced later. Some former cricketers and experts expressed doubt over the seriousness of the injury, intensifying the debate around the issue.
PCB to conduct inquiry
According to the report, the PCB inquiry committee will examine Imam’s injury and the sequence of events linked to it. Imam will have to present his version before the committee. For this reason, there is a possibility that he may seek legal advice.
The matter is being seen as serious also because questions have been raised earlier about Imam’s injuries. Pakistan’s former chief selector Mohammad Wasim has reportedly spoken of concerns being expressed over the pattern of his injuries during the 2022 England series.
Old controversy adds to trouble
Reports have also claimed that in 2025, a PCB committee investigated Imam’s alleged false claim of a toe injury during the New Zealand tour. At that time, reports said strict action against him and a ban from all formats had been recommended. However, these old allegations should be viewed in a context separate from the current inquiry.
Career could be affected
If the allegations against Imam are proved in the PCB inquiry, it could have a serious impact on his international career. For now, the matter is at the inquiry stage, and Imam’s response as well as the PCB’s final report are still awaited.
Pakistan have suffered two consecutive defeats in the Test series against England, and major changes have also been made in the team management. In such an environment, the controversy linked to Imam has become another challenge for Pakistan cricket.
