CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Ensure All Precautionary Flood-Control Measures in the State: Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat
Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat has directed departmental officials to continuously review the water levels in dams and reservoirs across the state and implement all precautionary measures for flood control. He emphasized establishing constant coordination with related departments to ensure effective disaster management and control. In the event of reports of excessive rainfall or flooding from any region of the state, officials must respond with immediacy and preparedness.
Minister Silawat issued these directives during a meeting with departmental officers held at the State Flood Control Room, located in the Chief Engineer’s Bodhi office. He reviewed the rainfall status and water accumulation in water structures across the state. Present at the meeting were Chief Engineer R.D. Ahirwar, Superintending Engineer, Director of the Flood Control Room, and other concerned officials.
During the meeting, it was informed that as per the Reservoir Level Monitoring System, among the 286 major dams identified in the state:
6 reservoirs are filled over 90%
7 reservoirs are between 75% to 90%
22 are at 50% to 75%
43 are at 25% to 50%
52 are between 10% to 25%
156 are at less than 10% capacity.
On this same date last year, the average water storage in the state’s major dams was 25.76%, while this year, due to the early arrival of a strong monsoon, the current average is over 35.34% — a 10.25% increase compared to last year.
As of today in Monsoon 2025, 230.8 mm of actual rainfall has been recorded in Madhya Pradesh, which is 48% above the state average. The eastern region has received 30% more rainfall than average, while the western region has seen 65% more. Thanks to this favorable monsoon, the water storage situation in major dams is satisfactory.
Last year on the same date, the recorded rainfall in Madhya Pradesh was 142 mm, which was 9% below the average, with the eastern region receiving 18% less, and the western region matching the average.
