CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Thousands of supporters of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan have begun marching towards Islamabad after negotiations between his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the federal government failed to resolve their differences. The march began from Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 4, with PTI supporters travelling in trucks, buses and cars. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is leading the mobilisation. The protesters are demanding Khan’s release and greater access to him, including a meeting with his family and personal doctor.

PTI had postponed the planned march from September 27 to October 4 to allow negotiations with the government, but two rounds of talks ended without an agreement. A major point of disagreement was PTI’s demand for access to Khan, who has remained imprisoned since 2023 following convictions on corruption and other charges. Khan and his party have described the cases as politically motivated.

The federal government has warned that protesters will not be allowed to enter Islamabad and has placed shipping containers at several entry points and other strategic locations. Authorities have also increased security around the capital. The government has cited security concerns, including militant activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while PTI has maintained that its protest is aimed at securing Khan’s release. The developing confrontation comes amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan.
