CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Inauguration of Forensic Histopathology Lab at AIIMS Bhopal The Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS, Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Forensic Histopathology Lab. This lab is located in the mortuary complex of AIIMS and will enhance the capabilities in forensic medicine. In his address, Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh highlighted the crucial role of histopathology in forensic investigations and expressed his commitment to further enhance the lab’s capabilities in the future.

The newly established lab will facilitate advanced research and diagnosis in forensic histopathology, enabling accurate examination and analysis of crucial tissue samples for medico-legal cases. This facility marks the beginning of a new era in forensic pathology at AIIMS, capable of providing precise and timely histopathological evaluations. It will aid in determining causes of death and assist law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations.

Dr. Arneet Arora, Professor and Head of the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) department, noted that histopathological investigations can determine the cause of death in 40% of cases where the cause is not apparent from gross autopsy findings. Forensic histopathology helps police in identifying causes of death in medico-legal cases and assessing cases for valid investigation. Additionally, it will support teaching and research activities. With the inauguration of the forensic histopathology lab, the FMT department will become self-reliant in processing tissues and preparing slides for medico-legal cases. Professor (Dr.) Ajay Singh appreciated the efforts of everyone involved in establishing the lab and emphasized its importance in maintaining high standards of forensic investigation and medical education at AIIMS.
