CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The BJP has faced a setback in Ajmer as the latest Rajasthan municipal election trends indicate that the Congress is ahead in the Ajmer Municipal Corporation, while independent candidates could play the role of kingmakers.
Ajmer Municipal Corporation has 80 wards. According to the latest counting trends, Congress was leading in 37 wards, while the BJP was behind with 32. Independents were leading in 11 wards, leaving them in a potentially crucial position in determining control of the civic body.
The numbers mean that neither of the two major parties has reached the majority mark on its own. With independents holding 11 wards, their support could become decisive when the process of forming the municipal board moves forward.
The Ajmer result stands out against the broader Rajasthan civic election picture, where the BJP has performed strongly across several urban local bodies. The Congress, however, has maintained a lead in Ajmer, Bikaner and Pali municipal corporations in the latest trends.
The outcome is being closely watched as the results of Rajasthan’s urban local body elections are seen as an important political indicator ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. The final composition of the Ajmer civic body will depend on the remaining results and subsequent political alignments.
