CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: India is preparing to field a contingent of 501 athletes at the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Indian athletes will take part in various events across 36 sports. According to a report, the contingent includes 267 men and 234 women athletes.
The Indian contingent includes 310 athletes who will be participating in the Asian Games for the first time. The figure reflects the strong presence of emerging new talent in Indian sports. Athletics will have India’s largest squad, with 78 athletes. The Indian team includes players and athletes from several sports, including cricket, hockey, badminton, shooting, wrestling, archery, boxing, weightlifting and kabaddi.
The 2026 Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4. Around 17,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions are taking part in the competition. This edition will feature 469 medal events across 43 sports. India won a record 107 medals at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. The Indian contingent will now aim to build on that performance and deliver another strong showing.
