CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: Leaders of the INDIA bloc, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, marched towards the Supreme Court in New Delhi on October 12, 2026, to protest alleged electoral irregularities and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The opposition has raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise could lead to the exclusion of eligible voters.

The march brought together opposition leaders seeking greater transparency and accountability in the electoral process. Rahul Gandhi called for an end to what he described as “vote chori” and urged political parties, civil society organisations and citizens to support the campaign. The opposition also sought to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India, raising concerns about the electoral-roll revision exercise and the functioning of the Election Commission.

However, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declined the opposition delegation’s request for a meeting, observing that the issues raised were already under judicial consideration. The Supreme Court subsequently permitted a delegation of 10–15 Congress members to enter its premises to submit a petition at the filing counter.

Security was strengthened across central Delhi ahead of the march, with police deployment and traffic restrictions affecting parts of the city. The Election Commission and the ruling BJP have rejected the opposition’s allegations, maintaining that electoral-roll revision is intended to ensure accurate voter lists.

The developments have intensified the political debate over electoral transparency, institutional accountability and the right to peaceful protest.
