Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Alstom manufacturing plant located in Savli, Vadodara, Gujarat. He was accompanied by Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, Savli MLA Ketanbhai Inamdar, General Managers of Western and Central Railways, Divisional Railway Managers of Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and other senior railway officials.

‘Namo Bharat’ Coach Production Commended

Officials and employees of Alstom briefed the minister on various ongoing operations at the plant. The minister appreciated the modern design and build quality of the state-of-the-art ‘Namo Bharat’ coaches manufactured at the facility.

Comprehensive Maintenance and Innovation

The Alstom team detailed their maintenance operations, including material usage and supplier integration. They also discussed preventive maintenance through the use of sensors and AI.

Make in India, Make for the World

The minister was briefed on Alstom’s innovative approach to continuous design upgrades with every order. He congratulated Alstom for its “Designed in India” railway products.

The coaches, locomotives, bogies, propulsion systems, and more manufactured at this plant are being exported to countries like Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Canada, Mexico, and others under the ‘Design, Develop, and Deliver from India to the World’ initiative.

India Becomes a Major Exporter of Railway Equipment

Commenting on the success of the Make in India programme, the minister stated:

“India’s railway manufacturing is now seeing the impact of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’. Today, India is exporting railway components, coaches, and locomotives to many developed nations.”

The Savli factory has boosted Vadodara’s economy, generated local employment, and accelerated the region’s development.

Talent Development for India and the World

The minister was also briefed on Alstom’s talent development initiatives in India, where around 7,000 engineers are currently employed—covering rolling stock and signalling systems, including 300 engineers working on international projects.

Minister Vaishnaw expressed interest in Alstom’s training programmes and suggested collaboration with Gati Shakti University. He appreciated the existing training partnership between Alstom Savli and Western Railway’s Vadodara Division.

He urged Alstom to design large-scale off-campus and on-site training programmes for Indian Railways and encouraged railway officers to actively participate in these workshops.
