CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Kakamigahara. The Indian men’s hockey team faces the challenge of defending its gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. Defending champion India will meet Malaysia in the final. The gold-medal match between the two teams will be played on October 3. India will be eyeing a second consecutive Asian Games gold.

India entered the final after defeating Pakistan 4-3 in a highly thrilling semi-final. The Indian team was ahead 3-0 at one stage, but Pakistan fought back to level the score. The match appeared to be heading towards a shootout when Abhishek scored the decisive goal in the final minute to seal India’s win.

In the other semi-final, Malaysia defeated South Korea 2-1 to book its place in the final. Malaysia has also remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and had recorded five consecutive wins in the pool stage. The title clash will now be between two unbeaten teams.

For India, this match is not only about the gold medal. The men’s hockey team that wins the Asian Games gold will earn direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. India has not yet won the men’s hockey gold at the Asian Games twice in a row, so this final offers the team a chance to defend the title and create history.
