CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India ePress | ITDC News, Bhopal: New Delhi. The rise in demand for ammunition in Europe after the Russia-Ukraine war has created a major opportunity for India’s defence industry. According to a Bloomberg report, since 2022 India has exported at least $872 million, or about ₹7,600 crore, worth of ammunition to European countries. The figure reflects an increase of more than 1,600 percent compared with the four years before the war.

According to the report, after South Korea, about three-fourths of India’s ammunition supplies went to 13 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. India’s ranking in this trade has risen from 28th place to second place. South Korea is ahead of India in this category. However, the ranking relates to ammunition supplies and not to all types of arms exports to Europe.

The products exported from India include artillery shells, mortar bombs, explosive materials and other military equipment. The growing defence requirements of European countries and India’s policy of encouraging domestic weapons production have given momentum to this trade.

According to the report, Indian-made ammunition has also reached Ukraine through some European buyers. The Indian government had earlier said that India did not directly supply ammunition to Ukraine. Under Indian export rules, declared end-user conditions apply to buyers.
