India’s campaign at the Asian Games 2026 began on a disappointing note. The men’s soft tennis team suffered a 0-3 defeat against Chinese Taipei in a Group C contest. It was India’s first match at the Asian Games.
The tie began with the men’s doubles match, where the Indian pair of Jai Meena and Yogesh Choudhary was beaten 5-0 by Kai-Wen Yu and Wei-Chieh Lin. In the singles match that followed, India’s Aryan Thakur lost 1-4 to Yu-Sang Chang. With that result, Chinese Taipei took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the tie.
In the second doubles match, the Indian pair of Aniket Patel and Om Yadav also failed to register a win. Chinese Taipei’s Po-Yi Chen and Yu-Hsun Chen won the match 5-1. Chinese Taipei thus defeated India 3-0 to win the tie.
India will now face Mongolia in their next Group C match. The team will look to make a comeback in the next contest. Meanwhile, India’s matches in other Asian Games events are also continuing. The women’s cricket team is beginning its campaign with a quarterfinal match against hosts Japan on September 18.
