CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: India and Tajikistan are exploring greater cooperation in potato research, cultivation, quality seed production, technology exchange and capacity building. The discussions took place during a virtual interaction between scientists from the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), Shimla, and representatives of LCC AKOMA, Tajikistan, with support from the Embassy of Tajikistan in New Delhi.
The interaction was held under the directions of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to strengthen international scientific cooperation and facilitate the exchange of agricultural technologies and expertise.
A key area identified for cooperation was aeroponics technology for producing high-quality potato seed material. According to CPRI Director Dr Brajesh Singh, the technology can support rapid multiplication of quality planting material and help strengthen seed-potato production systems. Tajik representatives expressed interest in gaining practical exposure to the technology and related production practices.
The two sides also discussed an exposure visit by Tajik representatives to CPRI facilities in Shimla. The proposed visit would provide an opportunity to study advanced research facilities, aeroponics-based seed production, potato crop management and other technologies developed by the institute.
Specialised training for agricultural professionals from Tajikistan was also proposed, with the aim of strengthening technical knowledge and practical skills in modern potato production and seed technologies.
