CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The first match of the five-match T20 series between India and the West Indies will be played on October 6 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
After winning the gold medal at the Asian Games and clinching the ODI series against the West Indies 2-1, the Indian team will look to maintain its winning momentum in T20 cricket as well.
The biggest talking point ahead of the first T20 is the selection of 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He is part of India’s T20 squad and has played in the Asian Games semifinal and final, but his name does not feature in the probable playing XI for the opening match. The coaching staff has also indicated that the final decision will be taken only on match day.
Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are being seen as the preferred opening options for the Indian team. Batters such as Ishan Kishan, captain Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube will add strength to the side. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will also have important responsibilities.
The second match of the series will be played in Ranchi on October 9, the third in Indore on October 11, the fourth in Hyderabad on October 14 and the fifth in Bengaluru on October 17.
