CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A run-scoring record was set in Ranchi as batters produced a flurry of milestones in the second T20 international between India and West Indies. Batting first, India scored 249 for five in 20 overs. In reply, West Indies reached 252 for four in 18.3 overs to win the match by six wickets. A total of 501 runs were scored in the match, the highest aggregate so far in a men’s T20 international played in India.
West Indies successfully chased a target of 250, recording the second-highest successful run chase in men’s T20 international history. South Africa remain ahead, having chased down a target of 259 against West Indies in 2023. With this win, West Indies levelled the five-match series 1-1.
West Indies captain Shai Hope struck an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls. Sherfane Rutherford played an explosive innings of 84 off 37 balls. The pair added 120 runs off 54 balls for the fourth wicket and dented India’s hopes of victory. Despite losing two wickets in the early overs, West Indies staged a strong comeback.
For India, Sanju Samson made an impressive 82 off 41 balls. Ishan Kishan scored 43 off 22 balls, while Shreyas Iyer added 40 off 18 balls. Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 44 off 18 balls helped India reach 249. However, even the huge total was not enough for the Indian bowlers to secure victory.
After the win in Ranchi, West Indies have made a comeback in the series. The two teams will now face each other in the next match in Indore. India will look to improve their bowling and regain the lead, while West Indies will aim to continue their winning momentum on the strength of their aggressive batting.
