CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla made history not just with his journey to the International Space Station (ISS), but also by carrying a taste of India with him. Among the carefully selected food items he took were traditional Indian desserts like Gajar ka Halwa, Moong Dal Halwa, and Aam Ras. These beloved Indian sweets were specially processed and packaged to be space-compatible, ensuring they met safety, nutritional, and shelf-life requirements for zero-gravity conditions.

Shukla’s food choices reflect a growing trend in space missions where astronauts are given familiar comfort foods to support emotional well-being during long-duration stays in space. ISRO collaborated with food scientists and nutritionists to create versions of these dishes that retain their flavor and texture, even in space.

The move is symbolic and cultural, showcasing India’s culinary heritage on a global scientific platform. It also represents India’s expanding footprint in space exploration, making room not just for technological achievement but also cultural representation.

Shukla’s mission and menu are receiving widespread attention, celebrating a proud moment for both Indian science and cuisine.
