Captain Shreyas Iyer guided the team to victory with a blistering unbeaten 102 off 43 balls. It was the first century of his T20 International career.
India chased down the 172-run target in just 14.4 overs. Shreyas Iyer hit 10 fours and six sixes in his innings. He shared an unbroken 137-run partnership for the third wicket with Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 37. With this century, Iyer also became the first Indian T20 captain to score a hundred in a run chase.
A catch controversy involving Ishan Kishan was also discussed during the match. The West Indies raised an objection over his catch, but the decision went in India’s favour. The incident also triggered debate on social media.
Naman Dhir, making his debut for India, produced an impressive performance with the ball. He took three wickets for 31 runs in four overs. Batting first, the West Indies had scored 171 runs in 19.1 overs. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
