CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Moscow. Indian experts and representatives of the international fashion industry discussed striking a balance between artificial intelligence (AI) and traditional craftsmanship at the BRICS Plus Fashion Summit 2026.

Held in Moscow from September 28 to 30, the summit focused on technological change in the fashion industry, creativity, cultural identity and modern design processes. Experts stressed that artificial intelligence can help improve designers’ efficiency, but human imagination, experience and artistic perspective will remain important.

During a discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in fashion design, experts said AI can help create new designs, develop fabric samples, forecast fashion trends and accelerate creative processes. However, they said human contribution remains crucial in understanding design distinctiveness, cultural values and the emotional expectations of customers.

Akashdeep Singh, president of the Indian Business Council, emphasised the idea of collaboration between art and artificial intelligence. According to him, technology can speed up the creative process, but the human role must remain important in taking final decisions and determining the direction of design.

Experts described Indian handicrafts, traditional techniques and local cultural identity as major strengths of the fashion industry. The discussion also underlined the need to preserve traditional skills and the uniqueness of handmade work while adopting modern technologies.

Experts associated with fashion education said future designers should acquire knowledge of digital technologies and artificial intelligence along with traditional artistic skills. This, they said, would enable them to develop new products in line with changing industrial requirements.

The summit also discussed links between design, digital technology, investment and cultural identity. According to experts, coordination between artificial intelligence and traditional craftsmanship can create new business opportunities in the fashion industry.

The participation of Indian experts highlighted the importance of Indian design traditions, creative skills and technological innovation on a global platform. A key idea emerging from the summit was that the future of fashion will be shaped by cooperation between technology and human creativity, with traditional craftsmanship continuing to play an important role.
