CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. For the first time since Operation Sindoor, a senior official of India’s Ministry of External Affairs has reached Pakistan. Senior Indian Foreign Service officer and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Alok Dimri is representing India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s National Coordinators’ meeting in Islamabad.
The three-day meeting is being hosted by Pakistan from September 28 to 30. National coordinators of member countries are discussing the organisation’s activities, upcoming meetings and preparations for programmes to be held under Pakistan’s chairmanship.
Relations between India and Pakistan have remained tense in recent times. After Operation Sindoor, India has emphasised the need for a terror-free and conducive environment for talks at the bilateral level between the two countries. Despite this, both countries have continued to take part in institutional meetings of multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Pakistan is currently chairing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council of Heads of State for 2026-27. The organisation’s summit of heads of state is proposed to be held in Islamabad in August 2027. The current meeting is being considered important in terms of preparations for that summit and other high-level meetings.
