CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association (ICPA) has raised serious concerns over the official report on the Air India Express crash, expressing dissatisfaction with what it calls a “premature assigning of blame.” The association stated that the report appears to focus more on pilot error than on systemic and infrastructural issues that may have contributed to the tragic incident.
The crash in question occurred at Kozhikode Airport in August 2020, claiming the lives of 21 people, including both pilots. While the investigation cited factors like tailwind, poor visibility, and unstable approach, the ICPA has argued that underlying institutional failures, such as inadequate safety oversight, crew fatigue, and runway conditions, were overlooked or minimized.
The pilots’ body stressed the need for a more transparent and balanced investigative approach that focuses on preventing future incidents rather than simply placing blame. They are also calling for a comprehensive safety review across all major airports, particularly table-top runways like Kozhikode.
This dissatisfaction highlights ongoing tensions between aviation authorities and pilot organizations in India, raising questions about the effectiveness and fairness of air crash investigations and their implications for pilot accountability and public safety.
