CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Bhopal Division of Western Central Railway has taken a major initiative towards making the rail signal system safer and faster.
Notably, for the first time in Indian Railways, a technology has been introduced at the Nishatpura Yard in Bhopal Division, where signal operations will now be done via optical fiber instead of traditional wiring.
Until now, the signal system operated through various wires that controlled the signals. This system took time, and there was always a possibility of malfunction. The new technology, based on optical fiber cables, is considered to be faster, safer, and more reliable compared to the traditional signaling system.
The new technology includes a device called the “Lamp Output Module,” which sends signals from the control room to the signals via optical fiber.
What is this?
This is a new signaling technology where signals on railway tracks will now be controlled directly via fiber lines.
There will be no heavy wiring, and everything will operate via fiber, making the signals work faster and without interruption.
What are the benefits?
Signals will never be “blank,” meaning that even if one signal malfunctions, the train will still receive a signal aspect.
Trains will be safer and run on time.
The system is connected to an automatic fan that activates itself when needed, preventing the machine from overheating.
If one fiber line fails, the system will continue to function through another fiber line, meaning the system will never stop.
Signal maintenance will be easier and cost-effective.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria mentioned that the implementation of this technology began with two signals named S/SH-15 and S/SH-16 at Nishatpura Yard. The phased implementation of this technology on the Bhopal to Bina rail section has already begun. According to the plan, this advanced system will be active across the entire rail section by June 2026. This technology will play a crucial role in making the country’s railway lines safer and more modern in the future.Their cooperation was instrumental in making the program a meaningful tribute to the spirit of patriotism and national pride.
