CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Leaders of the Naya Bangladesh movement have issued a strong response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks on India’s role in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. They acknowledged India as an ally during the conflict but emphasized that India’s contribution should not overshadow Bangladesh’s sacrifices and struggles for independence.

The leaders stated, “India’s role in 1971 was significant as an ally, but the war was primarily fought and won by the people of Bangladesh. Our liberation was a result of the sacrifices of millions of Bengalis, not merely external support.” This comes after Prime Minister Modi praised India’s intervention in Bangladesh’s liberation, calling it a historic moment of solidarity between the two nations.

The Naya Bangladesh leaders expressed concern that India’s statements might diminish the narrative of Bangladesh’s own efforts during the war. They stressed the importance of recognizing the Mukhti Bahini and the people of Bangladesh as the true heroes of the liberation movement.

This exchange highlights the complex dynamics between the two nations, rooted in shared history and evolving diplomacy. While India remains a valued partner, Bangladesh continues to assert its independent identity and achievements on the global stage.
