CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: IndiGo flight 6E925, travelling from Patna to Lucknow, was struck by lightning at an altitude of around 17,000 feet amid bad weather on Wednesday. After the incident, the front section of the aircraft, the nose, suffered damage. There were 104 passengers and six crew members on board, and all were safe. The aircraft had taken off from Patna at around 3:10 pm and landed at Lucknow airport at about 4:05 pm. Initial reports described it as an emergency landing, but according to airport officials, the aircraft landed normally. The damage was detected during inspection after the aircraft had landed.
After a technical inspection, the aircraft was declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground). A team of engineers is examining the damage to the aircraft’s nose and radome. The aircraft was scheduled to operate onward from Lucknow to Ahmedabad, but it was grounded and another aircraft was arranged for the passengers. Apart from lightning, the possibility of impact by hail or pieces of ice is also being examined. For now, the final cause of the incident will become clear only after the technical investigation. The aircraft will be brought back into service only after necessary repairs and regulatory clearance.
