CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The ‘One Stop Center’ and ‘Sakhi Nivas’ in Indore, sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, are proving to be milestones in the direction of women empowerment. Women facing domestic violence, harassment, and other social challenges are receiving shelter, medical care, legal and police assistance, and counseling under one roof.
Since its inception in 2016, the One Stop Center in Indore has successfully resolved 15,683 cases. In April 2024, a 100-bed ‘Sakhi Nivas’ (Working Women Hostel) was launched in the Palasia area, offering all essential amenities with single, double, and dormitory accommodation options. Built at a cost of ₹8.29 crore, the hostel is home to women working in various professional fields.
Indore district has also received national recognition under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ for benefiting the highest number of women. Under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme, a remarkable improvement has been noted in the sex ratio at birth — from 849 to 996.
A national media team visiting from Delhi today observed these initiatives and appreciated the efforts. Dr. Sandhya Vyas, Joint Director of the Women and Child Development Department, briefed the media in detail about these initiatives and also gave a presentation on the ‘Begging Eradication Campaign’.
