CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: International Microorganism Day was celebrated in the Department of Microbiology at Barkatullah University. This global event highlights the vital roles microorganisms play in life and the environment. It raises awareness of how microorganisms, such as beneficial bacteria in our gut and disease-causing pathogens, impact our lifestyle.

A one-day workshop was organized during International Microorganism Day. By recognizing the contributions of microorganisms, the workshop aimed to provide a better understanding of their role in the evolution of life and ecosystem functions. The event provided a platform for teachers, researchers, and enthusiasts to share knowledge, celebrate scientific achievements, and promote the importance of microbiology in fields like medicine, agriculture, and ecology.

The chief guest of the program was the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor S.K. Jain, who addressed the students, saying, “If we work with dedication, success will follow.”

The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Anita Tilwari, Head of the Department, who emphasized the significant role of microorganisms in entrepreneurial development. She explained how microorganisms are used in industries like food and beverages, such as yeast in bread-making, creating new business opportunities. They are also used in the production of pharmaceuticals and biological products, in the discovery of antibiotics, vaccines, and other medical products, and in developing new companies with the help of microorganisms.

Microorganisms play a role in producing organic fertilizers and pesticides, promoting sustainable agriculture. This benefits farmers and fosters the establishment of new enterprises. Microorganisms can also be used in pollution control and waste management, providing new opportunities for entrepreneurs. Research in microbiology leads to the development of new products and services, which promotes entrepreneurship. Raising awareness about microorganisms can inspire new entrepreneurs to work on innovative ideas using the benefits of microorganisms.

The invited speakers were Senior Scientist Aniruddha Kumar Singh and Senior Microbiologist Rahul Basod. They explained to the students, through various aspects, how microorganisms play a critical role in entrepreneurial development and taught modern ways to create opportunities for new businesses. The main purpose of the program was to help students understand and adopt entrepreneurship as a viable option from an early stage.

A Rangoli competition was also organized in the department, where students made Rangolis using natural materials such as grains, tree leaves, flowers, twigs, roots, etc. The winning students were awarded certificates.

Present at the event were Sunil Kumar Snehi, Professor Ragini Gothilwal, guest scholars from the Microbiology, Botany, and Agronomy departments, and about 80 students from the department. The program was conducted by Jitendra Malviya and organized by Madhuri Shinde. The event concluded with a speech by Sunil Kumar Snehi.
