CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A range of science activities for students, teachers and science enthusiasts was successfully organised at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal (a unit of NCSM), on the occasion of International Moon Day. The programme aimed to develop scientific temper and curiosity among the public, especially students, about lunar exploration, Indian space missions and space science.
As part of the programme, a scientific demonstration of rocket launch and soft landing was held, in which participants were shown the principles of rocket science, the launch process and the scientific concept of soft landing on the Moon. The engaging demonstration greatly impressed the students and teachers.
This was followed by a popular science lecture on the topic, “Why are we returning to the Moon again?” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Mayuresh Surnis, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal. He shared interesting and informative insights on future lunar missions, human space exploration, the possibilities of resources available on the Moon, and the latest lunar missions of India and the world. Participants asked several curious questions during the lecture, which Prof. Surnis answered in a simple and scientific manner.
A live vacuum demonstration was also organised, in which the behaviour of various objects in a Moon-like vacuum environment was shown through scientific experiments. The demonstration gave students a practical opportunity to understand the lunar environment and concepts of space science.
To test students’ knowledge and scientific understanding, a Moon quiz competition based on Indian lunar missions was also held. Participants took part enthusiastically and demonstrated excellent knowledge by answering questions related to India’s lunar missions, especially the Chandrayaan missions.
A large number of students from schools and colleges, teachers and science enthusiasts participated in the programme. All activities were highly successful, and participants enjoyed learning science through experiments and participation.
Officials of the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, said the centre aims to develop scientific thinking in society through such programmes and inspire young people in the fields of science, technology and space research.
At the end, gratitude was expressed to all participants, teachers, the invited speaker and supporting institutions. The programme concluded in an enthusiastic atmosphere.
