CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Iran Holds Major Pro-Government Rally, 600,000 Register for Volunteer Force

A large rally in support of the government was held in Tehran on Friday after the war with the United States and Israel began. It is being described as one of the biggest government-organised demonstrations in Iran since the start of the war. A large number of people took part in the rally and expressed their commitment to join a volunteer force for the defence of the country.

Hasan Hasanzadeh, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, told the state broadcaster that more than 600,000 people have registered for the “Janfada-e-Iran” campaign. Under the campaign, volunteers are planned to be given limited military and emergency training. Officials have estimated that the number of people joining the training could eventually exceed 1 million.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with senior officials of the Revolutionary Guard and the Basij, attended the rally in Tehran. According to government officials, about 313,000 people joined the rally in the capital, although the figure has not been independently confirmed. Military equipment, including drones and air defence systems, was also displayed at the event. The mobilisation comes at a time when Iran’s economy is also facing challenges amid US sanctions and economic pressure. The government is presenting the campaign as a sign of national unity and preparation for a possible security crisis.
